About Me

My academic and technical qualifications (including B.Sc, M.A, B.Com and CPA) also reflect my diverse motivations and interests.  (I have also worked as an accounting and technology professional for many decades across different industries such as banking, hospitality and mining.) My love of books continues to reinforce my curiosity about the world. (More about this in my blog post).

When considering any field of enquiry -  from music to literature, science and philosophy - what I like most is looking for commonalities, identifying their underlying oneness. (This is also one of my major objectives when I travel.) But I am no an expert in any of these fields.

Hence, I chose “Crossing the divide” as the blog title as a metaphor for a number of phenomena. It refers firstly to how neurons in the brain cross the divide, the synapse, to communicate - generally accepted as the very bedrock of human intelligence. It is also symbolic of my endeavour to transcend the ideological chasms and differences that separate us. My preference is to overcome such restrictive identifiers as East, West, black or white and their attendant baggage. This is because such terms, as Tony Judt noted, “won’t just be an identity; it will be a rebuff and a reproof to those whom it excludes.” (And those exclusions apply to each one of us in some way or the other.)
